PADI OPEN WATER DIVER
YOUR PASSPORT TO DIVING
If you’ve always wanted to learn how to scuba dive, discover new adventures or simply see the wondrous world beneath the waves, this is where it starts.
The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular scuba course, and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle.
At Reef Dive Centre, the Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:
Knowledge Development (online, home study or in our custom built classroom affording panoramic views across the resort and shark bay) to understand basic principles of scuba diving
Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills in our beautiful black granite diving infinity pool.
Open Water Dives in some of Koh Tao's most beautiful bays and pinnacles to review your skills and explore!
If you have tried diving through a Discover Scuba Diving experience or resort course, the skills you learned may be credited towards a portion of the full PADI Open Water Diver course certification.
The fun part about this course is . . . well, just about all of it because learning to dive is incredible. You breathe underwater for the first time (something you’ll never forget) and learn what you need to know to become a certified diver. During the course, you’ll make at least five pool dives and four dives at local dive sites under the supervision of your PADI Instructor.
SMALL CLASS SIZES
With a maximum instructor to student ratio of 1:4, we guarantee a personalised experience tailored to each students particular requirements. Throughout the Open Water Diver course, you will have the chance to learn all about your scuba gear with classroom based academic sessions as well as practical tuition both in and out of the pool.
By the end of the course, you will be comfortable with the assembly and use of standard scuba equipment and accessories.
Included in every course is the PADI Open Water Diver Manual, which you may keep, as well as access to interactive learning sources such as DVD videos to watch at your leisure and online materials, all of which cover what you need to know about basic scuba diving skills, terminology and safety procedures.
For each concept you’ll read a description and watch a video demonstration. Then you’ll jump in the pool to practice these skills with your instructor
FIVE POOL & FOUR OPEN WATER
As mentioned earlier, the course consists of confined water in a swimming pool, which at Reef Dive Centre are combined into one afternoon of in-water learning. After these dives, you put your new skills into practice with four dives in the ocean over a period of two days. The dive sites we choose are not only beautiful both above and below water, but also chosen with the beginner diver in mind, typically being sheltered from wind and waves and also relatively shallow for your first two dives.
