PADI Advanced Open Water Adventures In Diving

Overview Pursue Your Passions

Exploration, Excitement, Experiences. They’re what the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about. And no, you don’t have to be “advanced” to take part – the course is designed so you can go straight into it after your Open Water Diver course.

Reef Dive Centre - Open Water Course

The Advanced Open Water Diver course helps you increase your confidence and build your scuba skills so you can become more comfortable in the water. This is a great way to get more dives under your belt while continuing to learn under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. This course builds on what you’ve learned and develops new capabilities by introducing you to new activities and new ways to have fun scuba diving.

You’ll hone your skills by completing five adventure dives that introduce you to underwater navigation and deeper water diving (typically anywhere from 18-30 metres/ 60-100 feet) as well as three more Adventure Dives of your choice.

One reason you’ll love the Advanced Open Water Diver course is that you and your instructor choose from 15 types of Adventure Dives to complete your course. You can try your hand at digital underwater photography, wreck diving, peak performance buoyancy and much more.

Get credit! Each Adventure Dive in the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course may credit toward the first dive of the corresponding PADI Specialty Diver course.

The Tuition Learning From The Best

Much of the learning in the Advanced course is practical, but there is ample opportunity to learn from the cumulative knowledge of the Reef Dive Centre professional team in our beautiful purpose built classroom offering panoramic views across the resort and shark bay beyond. The knowledge and skills you learn in the Advanced Open Water Diver course vary with your interest and the adventures you have, but include:

  • Practical aspects of deep diving
  • Physiological effects of deeper scuba diving.
  • More ways to use your underwater compass
  • How to navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time
  • How to better use your dive computer and electronic Recreational Dive Planner (eRDPml)
  • And much, much more, depending on the Adventure Dives you choose

You use all the basic scuba equipment including your underwater compass. Depending on which three adventure dives you pick, you may also try out underwater photography equipment, a dive light, lift bags, a dive flag/float or other specialty gear.

The PADI Adventures in Diving Manual provides information on more than 16 types of specialty diving. You’ll use it as a guidebook to improve your diving skills and prepare for new experiences and adventures.

The Dives Up to Five Open Water

  • After completing the academic portion for each of your chosen specialties, you will head out to our customised dive boat where you will be able to conduct two of your dives per morning or afternoon session. Night diving is a separate session of one dive.
  • Our dive boat will travel to one of Koh Tao's many beautiful bays or pinnacles, specifically chosen to meet your training needs.
  • At all times you will be accompanied by one of our dive professional team to ensure your comfort and safety.
  • After your first dive is completed, we return to the boat where you are greeted by our friendly crew who will have towels, hot drinks fresh fruit and pastries waiting for you during the interval.
  • Whilst you relax and enjoy the hospitality which our boat has to offer, our Captain will pilot the boat to a new dive site where you have the chance to take a second dive.
